The
K-12 science educator faces a number of critical demands in the new millennium
K-12 teachers must balance conflicting demands for teaching time.
Curricular content continues to expand exponentially, often driven by
high-stakes testing.
At the same time, national standards suggest that teaching methods
traditionally used in the past should give way to more student-centered methods,
such as inquiry-based and problem-based learning.
Furthermore, multimedia formats play an increasingly important role in
all classes.
Teachers must deal with these conflicting demands on a daily basis while
providing opportunities for students to not only learn science but to be excited
by the natural world that surrounds them.
The APS Archive - Providing Resources for K-12 Education
Welcome
to the APS Archive of Teaching Resources!
The APS Archive was designed to provide resources for science educators
at all levels.
At the K-12 level, the Archive provides resources that have been
developed through APS K-12 education programs.
These resources focus on inquiry-based learning, hands-on exploration of
science topics, authentic assessment, equity and diversity issues, and
effectively integrating Internet resources into the science curriculum.
| NOTE:
Each K-12 item in the
Archive has been field tested and/or reviewed by science educators and
curriculum developers for general content, pedagogy, and the use of
animals in teaching. However, unlike items at the higher education levels,
these items are not reviewed by the Archive Review Board for scientific
accuracy. A bulletin board is attached to each item to allow K-12
educators to discuss how they have used this item in their classrooms and
to offer suggestions for revision. |
What will I find here?
In the Archive you will not only find labs, lessons,
graphics, animations, and web sites that can enhance the content in your
courses, but you will also
be challenged to examine how you teach, with suggested offerings in
the “Explore Effective Pedagogy” section and linked to each of the learning objects
to view. The Archive also serves as an entry point to the APS Careers web site,
offering career resources for students and educators at each grade
level.
We
hope you will bookmark this page and return to it often.
